Temporary traffic control to be put in place for this Sunday’s Marathon

The 2018 Guangzhou Marathon is scheduled to run between 7:30 am to 1:45 pm on December 9th, with 30,000 runners from 47 countries and regions around the globe taking part. The organizing committee has announced that temporary traffic controls will be in effect during the event.

The marathon will start at Tianhe Sports Center, the finishing points of whole marathon and half-marathon are Huacheng Square and the Gate 1 of the China Import and Export Fair Exhibition Hall respectively.

According to the organizer, vehicles are prohibited from parking on the race course, including temporary roadside parking spaces on roads such as Qingbo Road, Binjiang Road and Yanjiang Road. Furthermore, the parking lots at Tianhe Sports Center, Haixinsha Island and the Canton Fair Complex Pavilion A will not open to the public during the event.

From 6:00 am on the day, temporary traffic control will be launched along the whole route including Tianhe Road, Tiyudong Road, Xiancun Road, Linjiang Road, Chebei Road, Liede Bridge, Liede Road, Modiesha Road, Yuejiang Road, Bingjiangdong Road, Yiyuan Road, Yizhou Road, Binjiang Road and more.

Guangzhou Marathon is an annual international sports event in Guangzhou. It is a high level marathon event recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the CAA calendar. Guangzhou Marathon was launched in 2012 and certified by CAA as an A grade event.

From 2014 to 2017, Guangzhou Marathon has been granted CAA Gold Medal status for four consecutive years. 2018 has seen this event receive more accolades upgraded to an IAAF Gold Label Road Race after being awarded IAAF Bronze and Silver Label Road Race status in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

In line with top international competition standards, the marathon will introduce anti-cheating bracelets for the first time, striving to ensure an environment of fair competition for all participants. When the runners get their entry packets, the staff will personally double check all information and attach the bracelets for them.
