In detail, Guangzhou has a variety of leading Internet-lead enterprises and brands in e-commerce, mobile Internet including Tencent Wechat, UCWeb, Kugou etc. Besides, NetEase, YY and Vipshop became the top 10 Internet enterprises in China in 2014.
Guangzhou government also gives priority for development of e-commerce. "Guangzhou has its advantages for developing "Internet +" and e-commerce. It is important to speed up the implementation of "Internet +" strategy because it can revive and boost economic growth," said Chen Jianhua, Guangzhou mayor.
In a construction plan for the cluster of e-commerce and mobile Internet enterprises, it proposes a detailed "1+1+9" layout plan for different areas. Pazhou will become a headquarter demonstration area for Internet-lead enterprises, Bai'e Tan will become a cluster for Internet industry and Guangzhou's nine districts such as Huangpu, Tianhe will establish industrial bases for Internet-lead or e-commerce enterprises.
From January to July in 2015, Guangzhou’s trade volume of cross-border e-commerce reached 3.22 billion Yuan, more than the total trade volume of last year. It helps Guangzhou to rank the first among all the six pilot cities for developing cross-border e-commerce in China. From January to July, Guangzhou's retail sales through Internet went up 57.9% and reached 30.55 billion Yuan, with an equivalent retail sales of traditional department stores or supermarkets in the same period.
