The 2016 Convention on Exchange of Overseas Talents kicks off in Guangzhou on Dec. 21. This year, over 3,000 overseas talents and 20 foreign academicians participate the convention. The convention has attracted almost 40,000 overseas talents and 20,000 projects to China since 1998.
Titled with "Gathering Talents for Dream and Future", it is the first time for the Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (OCS) "upgrades" to an exchange convention for both overseas talents and Chinese scholars.
Hu Chunhua, the Party Chief of Guangdong Province announced the opening of the convention. According to Zhu Xiaodan, the governor of Guangdong, the OCS is a key bridge for the massive Chinese returnees for innovation and entrepreneurship, it plays an important role in attracting top talents and promoting international talents exchange and scientific innovation cooperation. Guangdong is looking forward to welcoming global scientists, overseas talents to participate in the province's international collaboration in scientific innovation.
As the China's most influential overseas talent project, it attracts a number of top foreign talents from America, Japan and other developed European countries as well as countries along the "Belt and Road" to this event.
Prestigious international experts and scholars also gather in this convention, including Sune Svanberg, an academician of Sweden Royal Academy of Sciences and Sweden Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences, Robin Lovell-Badge, a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences; Patrick Tam, a Fellow of the Royal Societies of London and Edinburgh, etc.
The convention aims to establish a platform for exchanges of projects, investment, intellectual and information between overseas scholars and internal institutions. Almost 400 experts on China's "Recruitment Program of Global Experts" take part in the OCS, bringing with various high-tech projects.
In addition, a variety of themed exhibitions covering an area of 23,000 square meters showcase the cutting-edge technological achievements, overseas talents recruitment projects and policies, etc.
