Between January 14 to 20, the Guangzhou delegation, led by Ren Xuefeng, Standing Committee of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of Guangzhou, visited Germany and Switzerland and participated in over 50 activities at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 ("Meeting") in Davos, Switzerland.
The delegation actively raised awareness of development of Guangzhou as a key city in China, introduced the open and innovative environment of the city, with the intention of reaching high-end resources from the world and attracting more world-famous enterprises to increase their investment level in Guangzhou.
During the Meeting, Ren Xuefeng met with Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, achieving consensus on further cooperation. He made his presence in the opening ceremony and activities such as Night of China and Night of Dalian. He exchanged views with Prof. Manuel Sager, Director-General of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation on Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities – Guangzhou.
Ren also discussed the preparation for the 2017 Fortune Global Forum with Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alan Murray, talked about practical cooperation with David Aikman, managing director at World Economic Forum and chief representative officer of World Economic Forum's Greater China Office, and reached agreement with Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins on the issue of hastening the establishment of Cisco Innovation Centre China.
Guangzhou delegation, together with Fortune magazine, held a press conference for the 2017 Fortune Global Forum, informing media from home and abroad of preparations for the Forum and inviting prominent enterprises to the Forum.
In addition, the delegation held one-to-one conferences with executives from 40 entities, including Global 500 companies such as Google, Allianz, and Glencore International Plc, leading companies and innovative organizations such as Tupperware, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and Philips Lighting, as well as Fortune, CNN and Washington Post. They reached agreements on cooperation via conferences.
In Germany, the delegation, for advancing cooperative projects, attended the Munich Innovation Festival, exchanged innovative and development experience with Germany-based innovative enterprises, met with Yossi Vardi who is chairman and founder of unBound Digital, and visited Siemens headquarters.
