With the Fortune Global Forum to be held at the end of the year, Guangzhou authorities are attempting to spiff up the city's appearance and image. They have made a commitment to lessening urban traffic congestion, enhancing urban environment in a bid to upgrade Guangzhou's reputation and impact around the globe.
A dozen heavily traveled roads will be improved, including two in Yuexiu district, three in Tianhe, two in Baiyun, one in Haizhu and four in Liwan, according to the Leading Group Office for Transport Projects of Downtown of Guangzhou.
By the end of March, the Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute will work out the detailed plans, construction design charts and budget.
The road improvement projects not only can benefit people’s daily lives but also serve as a good way to demonstrate the city's ability in holding such big event as the Fortune Global Forum.
Guangzhou began to tackle urban traffic congestion in 2011. It had improved 96 major areas and roads with traffic problems by 2015, diminishing transportation woes in the city. Traffic congestion management in 2017, combining the routes related to the forum, will include certain major areas and roads into the priority programs for improvement.
