Update: 2018-01-08     Source: newsgd.com

A self-service customs declaration machine was installed recently in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport’s Terminal 1. Magdy Elsayed Moham, a visitor from Egypt and the first user of this machine, was very satisfied, saying that ‘it’s easy and very helpful’.

“This is the first self-service machine for declaration in China’s airports,” said Yang Jie, director of Baiyun Airport’s customs inspection department, “the machine will help improve our clearance efficiency and handle the rapid increase of international passengers.”

With simple and clear directions, the self-service machine enables passengers to print declaration forms in two minutes. Furthermore, passengers used to have to redo the written forms if making any mistakes or their handwriting are illegible. With the machine, they will no longer need to worry about these mistakes.

In the future, Guangzhou customs will further develop online declaration services so that passengers can complete the process via WeChat or a mobile app.

Guangzhou has long been the major transport hub in China as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. With the goal of becoming an international aviation hub, the city will hold the World Route Development Forum this year, which is expected to attract representatives from over 270 airlines, 600 airports and 80 related institutions worldwide.

Baiyun International Airport has become one of the busiest airports in the world with the annual passenger flow exceeding 65.8 million by the end of 2017. Thus far, 80 airlines have been operating out of the airport, nearly 50 of which are overseas airlines connecting to more than 80 destinations abroad.
