Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, led a delegation to Japan and South Korea from July 29 to Aug 5 to attend 26 events including the 2019 Asia Pacific City Summit (APCS) in Fukuoka, Japan.

The delegation promoted the business environment of Guangzhou and the city's innovation and development, focusing on the development of new-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, new energy, new materials and other strategic emerging industries. The delegation also sought to deepen cooperation with sister cities such as Fukuoka and Gwangju.

With a focus on driving cities through business and innovation, the APCS is a key platform for city, business, industry and emerging leaders to connect and shape the region's urban agenda. Over 200 government leaders, business leaders, experts and scholars from 33 cities around the world attended the opening ceremony of this year's APCS and Wen delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the summit.

The delegation attended an investment promotion conference arranged by Guangzhou, the Fukuoka-Guangzhou economic and trade exchanges conference, and other economic and cultural exchange activities in Tokyo and Fukuoka and met with the mayors of Fukuoka and Auckland in New Zealand.

During his visit to South Korea, Wen met with the newly appointed mayor of Gwangju, Lee Yong-Seop, to discuss future cooperation and development between the sister cities, and visited the city's renowned video production center CGI as well as its Chinese culture center.
