Update: 2018-10-30     Source: SilkRoadPost

Themed "Building a New Platform for Openness and Cooperation and Creating New Driver of Shared Development," the 2018 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo Theme Forum opens in Guangzhou on October 26.

Over 800 Chinese and foreign representatives attend the forum. About 260 of the foreign participants are from about 80 countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Georgia and South Africa. Former prominent politicians and ministers from 15 countries along the Belt and Road, as well as heads of important business associations from 28 Belt and Road countries attend the event.

The forum also attracts distinguished guests to share their viewpoints. David Saganelidze, the CEO of the Georgia Partnership Fund; H.E. Chhuon Dara, Cambodia's secretary of state for commerce; and Wei Jianguo, former Chinese vice commerce minister deliver speeches on topics ranging from creating the world's best business environment, to building a platform for economic and trade cooperation.

Centering around the theme of creating new models for opening-up, building-up international cooperation platforms, and discussing the role of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area play in the construction of Belt and Road initiative, this year's event features one conference and four sub-forums.

During the forum, a greater bay area construction initiative is launched together by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee, nine trade promotion associations of prefecture-level cities in Guangdong province, and 16 business associations, such as the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, and the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

The Bluebook of Guangdong's Participation in the "Belt and Road" Construction (2013-2018), written by a research team from Sun Yat-sen University, is released. It is the first time a systematic study of important achievements, existing problems and suggestions for the province's development under the initiative has been published.
