11 different metro lines to connect Guangzhou with Foshan
Update: 2019-03-06     Source: newsgd.com

Foshan Metro announced recently that Foshan Metro Line 3 will link Shende Passenger Port with Foshan University, and 9 stops along the route will enable passengers to transfer to Guangzhou Metro Lines.

Including Foshan Metro’s Line 3, a total of 11 different metro lines will connect Guangzhou with Foshan in the future, according to the government’s plan.

Both located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, Guangzhou and Foshan have put forward a joint development plan 11 years ago in which connecting two cities’ transportation networks is a focal point.

Guangzhou-Foshan Metro Line

In 2010, the Guangzhou-Foshan ‘Guang-Fo’ Line was put into use, making it the first metro line to link the two cities. The Line runs through three districts in Foshan including Nanhai, Chancheng and Shunde, and links to Guangzhou’s Haizhu and Liwan districts. It has transfer points on Guangzhou Metro’s Lines 1, 2, 3 and 8.

According to GuangFo Metro, the line has seen an increasing number of passengers over the years. The daily passenger flow has more than tripled, from 90 thousand in 2010 to 350 thousand in 2018. Annual passenger volume is expected to reach 200 million in 2019.

In addition, three intercity metro lines, Guangzhou Metro Line 7, Foshan Metro Line 2 and Guangzhou-Foshan Intercity Loop, are all under construction.

Guangzhou Metro Line 7 and Foshan Metro Line 2 will connect currently developing areas from Foshan’s Nanzhuang to Guangzhou South Railway Station while the Intercity Loop will allow people to commute between Foshan West Station and Guangzhou South in just 20 minutes. The Loop is planned to open in October this year.

Guangzhou South Railway Station

In addition to the metro lines mentioned above, the government plan indicates that there will be seven more metro lines linking Guangzhou to Foshan. Guangzhou Metro Lines 28 and 18, Foshan Metro Lines 11 and 4 will start construction before 2025; Foshan Line 8 will start before 2030 while others feature in more long-term plans.

Soon you will be able to travel between most places in Guangzhou and Foshan using only one metro ticket and without leaving the metro system.
