Disposable amenities no longer free at city hotels
Update: 2019-08-06     Source: lifeofguangzhou.com

Attention! Free disposable items will no longer be offered voluntarily by Guangzhou's hotels, according to a notice launched by Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau on July 19. The new regulation is a response to waste-sorting enforcement in the city, aiming to control and reduce the trash output at the source.

These free commodities provided by hotels often include disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, body-lotion, soap, combs and slippers. They have brought great convenience to hotel guests who are traveling or on business trip.

Guangzhou, as an advanced internationalized metropolis, attracts people from around the world to travel and live here. But with its large population, the city also produces tons of garbage every day, putting increasing stress on its waste-handling facilities. While daily necessities offered in hotels may be convenient to customers, they are burdensome for the city, as they cannot be recycled. Usually each hotel room is equipped with about six disposable commodities. Yet some guests may not use them for reasons of hygiene. This could be a huge expense and waste.

The new restriction on free disposable commodities may impact the hotels and manufacturing industries in Guangzhou, but could ease the burden of the city's refuse classification and handling. People are encouraged to bring with them these items when staying in hotels, or they may need to buy them from the reception desk or shops nearby.

Therefore, remember to take your own daily necessities when you want to stay in a hotel in Guangzhou next time!
