International light festival to open this month
Source: lifeofguangzhou.com
The seventh Guangzhou International Light Festival will kick off on October 27 and last until May 4, 2018. Themed "Maritime Silk Road," the festival this year consists of five parts, including "Light of the City," "Light of the Ocean," "Light of the Economy," "Light of Science and Technology" and "Light of the Future."
With experiences and promotions over the past six years, the festival has become one of the world's top three light events together with the Lyon Festival of Lights in France and Australia's Vivid Sydney. Selected as a special cultural event for the International Year of Light of UNESCO in 2015, the Guangzhou light festival is also a brand event displaying the city's image and glamour.
Nearly 20 units of lights, which are works from China and abroad, are selected for this year's light festival. Demonstrating the concepts of the Belt & Road initiative, World Cities Day and the 2017 Fortune Global Forum, the works will present Guangzhou's culture and history as the origin of the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
Highlights of the event are as the follows:

1. 3-D immersive show to raise the curtain of the event

Combining live performance and holographic projections, the show "Legend of Guangdong" will be performed at the opening ceremony on October 27. It will showcase the history and culture of the Maritime Silk Road and bring the audience to a vivid experience of ancient Guangdong.

2. "Beautiful Life" to manifest the charm of the city

An exquisite stage show, "Beautiful Life," will be projected on the water screen at the front square of Guangzhou Opera House, which will present the charm of Guangzhou in terms of economy, living conditions, history and culture.

3. Summit for discussions on light culture and city development
As an activity dedicated to the World Cities Day Forum, the City Lights Summit will gather together professionals on science and technology, entertainment and design to explore the close connection between light arts and cities, promote the development of the light culture, and share the attendees' ideas on shaping the future world.
