Unique museums in GZ offer rare, exotic exhibits
Source: lifeofguangzhou.com
Guangzhou, as a historic city, boasts a lot of popular museums, among them are the well-known Guangdong Museum and Guangzhou Museum. But besides such relatively large museums, the city has a number of small, less recognized, but very interesting museums. These newly opened or rarely known museums are, like the larger ones, convincing witness to Guangzhou's history. And they’re definitely worth a visit.

1. Museum of audio equipment

Located in Jianggao town of Baiyun District, the museum exhibits a collection of some precious historical and modern audio equipment from China and other countries, connecting the past and future of the music industry.

In the 23 exhibition areas of the museum, you can see items like music boxes, gramophones, loudspeakers, radios, televisions and other audio-related equipment. Some of the exhibits, like a music box made in Germany in the late19th century, still can work today.

In addition, smart sensing technology is applied in this museum. When visitors enter a certain area, the light inside will be brightened and the audio introduction of varied exhibits will be played automatically.
Address: No.1, Xiahe Road, Jianggao Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou (广州市白云区江高镇夏荷路1号)
2. Museum of vintage cars

A not-so-eye-catching "warehouse," situated at Baiyun Dadao, will be home to a museum that will showcase vintage cars of more than 40 brands, including Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Cadillac and Ford, manufactured from 1907 to 1976. The museum has yet to open, but the cars to be exhibited here are extremely rare and some are even the only ones of their models left in the world.

The museum has set up a repair team to maintain these cars. Currently, about 50 cars have been repaired and 65 percent of them can actually be started.

The opening date for the museum has yet to be announced.

3. Laundry culture museum
Did you ever imagine that a manual washing machine, the world's earliest sewing machine, or irons from various eras might be presented as exhibits in a museum? Now they are. On November 5, a laundry culture museum, with an area of nearly 1,000 square meters, was opened to the public — for free — at Xiancun town in Zengcheng District.

The four exhibition areas in the museum vividly display the historical changes of people's living conditions. Visitors not only can observe the soaps used by ancient Mesopotamians and the detergent used by ancient Egyptians, but also can envision people's lives of those days by appreciating wall paintings such as Xi Shi, a famous beauty of ancient China, washing her silks.
Address: Lixin Dadao, Xiancun Town, Zengcheng District, Guangzhou (广州市增城区仙村镇荔新大道)
4. Finance-themed museum

On June 23, 2013, the first civil finance-themed museum in Chinese mainland opened in Guangzhou. It is located at Xidi Damalu, renowned as the first financial street in China. The site is the former home of a private bank — Jincheng Bank— that was active during the Republic of China era.

Inside the museum sit old bank counters and the room for the lobby manager back then. Large gold bullions are neatly placed beside the wall.

You can also see pictures and collections of pawn shops, exchange shops, banks, bonds, and insurance companies, most of which were collected from citizens.
Address: No. 268, Changdi Damalu, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou (广州市越秀区长堤大马路268号)
