Update: 2019-02-19     Source: chinadaily.com.cn

Seventy calligraphers and painters gathered on Feb 16 at Guangxiao Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Guangzhou, to offer Lantern Festival blessings through calligraphy works.

The Lantern Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month of the Chinese calendar. On this special day, Chinese people take to the streets to appreciate the dazzling array of lanterns on display and gaze upon the vivid moon.

A total of 3,000 works were given out, two thirds of which were the character "Fu" written in a variety of styles.

The activity has been held at Guangxiao Temple since 2016 and each year over 2,000 works are given out before the Lantern Festival.

Artists included Liang Zhengang, Li Zhishu, Li Shiguang, and He Weiyi, who are all longtime participants of the activity. Young calligraphers who have won prizes at exhibition competitions at home and abroad also participated in the activity.
