Most foreign-related government agencies in Guangzhou can handle foreigners' requests for information, complaints and formalities directly in English. Almost all major government agencies have a bilingual Chinese and English websites which provide information on the relevant policies, rules and guides, allowing residents to complete business registration, taxation and other related procedures directly online. Government offices are open Monday through Friday (excluding statutory public holidays) from 8:30 am to noon, and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. People can make an appointment with the relevant government office in advance if they require government services during public holidays.
There are 11 statutory public holidays in China. Major public holidays in 2010 are as follows:
New Year's Day: January 1 - 3
Lunar New Year: February 13-19 (February 20, 21 are workdays)
Qing Ming Festival: April 3-5
Labor Day: May 1-3
Dragon Boat Festival: June 14-16 (June 12, 13 are workdays)
Mid-Autumn Festival: September 22-24 (September 19, 25 are workdays)
National Day: October 1-7 (September 26 and October 9 are workdays)
